;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ;;;;;;; ;;;;;;; ;;;;;;; This file details how to make finders in the format ;;;;;;; ;;;;;;; that we use for CTIOPI. ;;;;;;; ;;;;;;; 22 Nov 2013 ;;;;;;; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; You need 'skycat' in your bin directory. You also need (in the same directory where you are generating the finders) the following files: dss.pl, finder.tex, 2ps. Make a list of coords with the RA & DEC separated by colons and object name: nomenclature ex: 02:14:44.7 -07:33:24.5 SCR0214-0733 *** make sure that there is only one space between ra & dec *** *** also make sure that document ends in a newline *** perl dss.pl 'filename' Skycat will pop up two windows. Close the very small one that is titled 'FITS HDUs'. Under graphics, select 'toolbox' select '\' then second choice for the next 3 boxes (width, arrow, arrow shape) select black for the next two boxes (fill & outline) stipple, font & smooth: select nothing Draw your arrow. To save, go to print select encapsulated postscript deselect footer text select print to file copy in the .eps file name select 'print' Exit skycat, and it will skip to the next object. When you're done making all of your finders, make sure you copy all the '.f.ps' files to the master finders directory: /nfs/recons2/finders.dir. ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; It is usually helpful to blink your targets at the same time to ensure that you're drawing your arrow to the correct star. Use Adric's Aladinblinker! Go to the Aladin webpage & click to launch the Aladin applet. On the toolbar, click on 'Tool' and then 'Macro Controller'. A window will pop up. Under 'File', click on 'Load script'. You will be able to browse to find wherever it is that you've saved Aladinblinker. Then, under 'File' again, click on 'Load params'. You will be able to browse to find a file that you've created that contains the coordinates of your objects (one coordinate per line). It is best to just copy the coord file from above, but with the star name cut out. That way, you can just 'Exec. next params' and it will progress in the same order as Skycat does. Files that you need: Aladinblinker & a coordinates (only! - no star name) file. Happy finders making! Love, Jen ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
