Southern Telescope AGN Reverberation Experiment

Welcome!

STARE is an ongoing camapaign to monitor brightness changes in southern active galaxies with the primary goal of measuring the mass of the central black hole in each galaxy.

Spectroscopic monitoring is being carried out at the SMARTS 1.5m telescope at CTIO (Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory) in Chile. Photometric monitoring is being carried out through a worldwide network of small telescopes. STARE is funded through a Research Initiation Grant awarded by Georgia State University and by NASA through the Space Telescope Science Institute.

If you are interested in contributing photometry, please look through the pages on this site to learn about the targets, the data requirements, and the background science. We look forward to collaborating with you!
