My early work as an undergraduate and graduate student was determining habitable zones for nearby stars. We defined nearby stars as all stars and brown dwarfs within 5 pc of the sun. We supplemented this with AFGK stars within 10 pc.
This work gave us a clear idea on the amount of habitable real estate in the solar neighborhood by spectral type. It also lists characteristics including UBVRIJHK photometric values, stellar effective temperature, stellar radius, and multiplicity of all known stars within the two samples. The paper can be found here, or the arXiv.org version here.
