CCD: FULL 13'x13'armin READOUT: ONE AMP GAIN INDEX: 1: Read Noise ~ 1.5 FILTER SET: UBVRI plus ND3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR TARGET FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The observing run consists of V-band photometric monitoring of the variable B-type star HD 175362 (V=5.351). Stars in the surrounding field will be used as comparison objects. 2. Because of the large (~6 magnitudes) contrast difference between target and comparison stars, the ND3 neutral density filter will be used for alternate frames. So, the filter sequence should be V+ND3, V, V+ND3, V, ... 3. All target frames (both V+ND3 and V-only) should use the same exposure time. Due to recent cleaning of the 0.9m mirror, it's not clear what the optimum exposure time should be. Therefore, on the first night, please take 6 exploratory frames of the target field, with the V+ND3 filters and with exposure times 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 seconds. Choose the exposure time that gives a peak counts on HD 175362 closest to 32,000. Use this chosen exposure time for both ND3+V frames *and* the V-only frames. 4. As the night progresses (and HD 175362 continues to rise), the exposure time may need to be shortened to prevent saturation in V+ND3 frames (it does not matter that HD 175362 saturates in the V-only frames). Likewise, later in the night (as HD 175362 starts to set), the exposure time may have to be lengthened. Ideally, in all V+ND3 frames, the peak counts on HD 175362 should not be allowed to rise above 42,000, and likewise should not be allowed to drop below 22,0000. 5. Don't worry if you don't get the first night completely right -- use any mistakes from the first night to help later nights run smoothly! *** IMPORTANT *** counts on HD 175362 should not be allowed to rise above 42,000, and likewise should not be allowed to drop below 22,0000. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR CALIBRATION FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Please obtain 11 bias frames and 11 V-filter flat field frames at the start of each night. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OBSERVING SEQUENCE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TARGET hd_175362 PRIORITY 1 COORDINATES 18 56 40.50 -37 20 35.7 (epoch 2000) FINDER CHART http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/Plot.pl?Radius=30&Radius.unit=arcmin&Coo=18+56+40.50+-37+20+35.7&CooEpoch=2000.0 AIRMASS less than 2.5 FILTER(S) ND3+V, V, ND3+V, V, ND3+V, V, ...
