CCD: FULL 13'x13'armin READOUT: QUAD GAIN INDEX: 2: Read Noise ~ 2.5 FILTER SET: UBVRI ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR TARGET FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- # # Include general instructions here regarding how you want your targets # observed. # 1. Make sure that the focus is good. As all targets are in the Magellanic Clouds (at rather high airmass), it might be best to optimize focus on a star at airmass ~ 1.5-1.7 before starting to observe all the science targets. 2. Check finder chart to confirm field. The targets are globular clusters in the Magellanic Clouds, and hence should be quite easily recognized as such. All coordinates are given in J2000 equinox. NOTE: The finder charts of the science targets are all 14x14 arcmin^2 in size, and have North up and East to the left. 3. Take the exposures. Do not worry about saturated stars in the field around the star clusters, EXCEPT for the standard star fields. 4. Please center the science targets near pixel coordinates (700,700) (+/- 50 pixels in either axis), i.e., on the lower left quadrant of the CCD. (The observer might as well use that position as a pointing zeropoint for all observations.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR CALIBRATION FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- # # Include general instructions here regarding how you want your # standards observed. For example: # 1. Observe one standard field at different airmasses between 1.0 and 2.0. Try to get an airmass of 1.0 (or 1.2) for the first observation, an airmass of about 1.5 for the second observation, and an airmass of about 2.0 for the final observation. (see observing sequences; I chose field TPhe for this purpose). 2. Observe at least two (preferably three) standard fields per night. The preferred standard fields are indicated in the observing sequences below. 3. See comment about avoiding saturation in the notes to each observation block of calibration fields. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OBSERVING SEQUENCE: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TARGET Standard_TPhe PRIORITY 1 COORDINATES 00 30 26.7 -46 31 55 FINDER CHART ftp://ftp.stsci.edu/outside-access/out.going/pgoud/SMARTS/TPHE.gif AIRMASS about 1.05 (+/- 0.1) FILTER(S) I,R,V,B INTEGRATION(S) 60s, 75s, 200s, 240s TOTAL TIME 14 minutes NOTES requires clear/photometric conditions; can be done before astronomical twilight (and before focusing).
