CCD: FULL 13'x13'armin READOUT: ONE AMP GAIN INDEX: 1: Read Noise ~ 1.5 ADU = 5.5 e- FILTER SET: UBVRI ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR TARGET FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The observing run consists of V-band photometric monitoring of the variable B-type star HR 7355 (V=6.023). Stars in the surrounding field will be used as comparison objects. 2. Because of the large (~3 magnitudes) contrast difference between target and comparison stars, alternate frames should be used to get higher counts on the comparison stars. 3. I am not sure what the exposure times should be. I would first try 30s, then 60s, 90s, 120s until the count rate is appropriate (see below). The same procedure should be used for both the target exposures and comparison exposures. 4. As the night progresses (and HR 7355 continues to rise), the exposure time may need to be shortened to prevent saturation in the target frames (it does not matter that HR 7355 saturates in the comparison frames). Likewise, later in the night (as HR 7355 starts to set), the exposure time may have to be lengthened. Ideally, in all target frames, the peak counts on HR 7355 should not be allowed to rise above 45,000, and likewise should not be allowed to drop below 20,000. 5. Surrounding bright comparison stars should not drop below around 3000. 6. Please adjust exposure times to allow the stars into the count ranges mentioned above. If the exposure time for the target frames is too small (i.e. less than 20s, try using an ND1 filter and adjusting the exposure times accordingly) 7. Please be sure to use the lower left amp for the observations. *** IMPORTANT *** Counts on HR 7355 should not be allowed to rise above 45,000, and likewise should not be allowed to drop below 20,000. Counts on bright comparison stars should not drop below 3000. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES FOR CALIBRATION FIELDS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Please obtain 10 bias frames and 20 V-filter flat field frames at the start of each night. Also, please include an additional 10 bias frames at the end of each night. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OBSERVING SEQUENCE ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TARGET hr_7355 PRIORITY 1 COORDINATES 19 24 30.18 -27 51 57.403 (epoch 2000) FINDER CHART http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/AladinPreview?-c=19+24+30.1800-27+51+57.403&ident =HD+182180&submit=Aladin+previewer AIRMASS less than 2.5 FILTER(S) V INTEGRATION(S) See target notes 3,4,5 & 6 TOTAL TIME Continuous monitoring NOTES require photometric conditions
