Spectroscopic Bianry Stars

Spectroscopic binary stars can not resolved visually into individual stars because their angular separation is too tiny. This could be because the two component star are actually very close together. Somae pairs can be so close the actually touch each other. another cause for small angular separations is how far away the pair is. the components may be far apart but the system is so far from Earth that they appear extremely close together in the sky. Spaetroscopic binaries give away their duplicity from Doppler shifts of their spectral lines. There are three types of spectroscopic binary stars described below.
